This course traces the major doctrinal and ecclesiological developments from the Reformation up to the present day including: the late medieval church, key figures in shaping Reformation thought, developments in the Post-Reformation period in England and Ireland, the church in the modern period including the growth and development of evangelicalism and the rise of the Baptists.

Learning Outcomes
  • demonstrate a basic understanding of the key events and issues in the history of the Reformation and modern periods.

  • describe the significance of the doctrinal disputes and developments during these periods.

  • illustrate an awareness of and appreciation for the achievements of key figures in the periods concerned.

  • identify models for imitation in his/her Christian life (see Hebrews 11:1-12:3; 13:7).
